Whether you want to enjoy the clear waters of Lake Bohinj or explore other water activities in this beautiful part of the Triglav National Park, Bohinj is the ideal destination for water lovers.
Swimming areas on Lake Bohinj
Lake Bohinj, the largest natural permanent lake in Slovenia, is a real oasis for swimming and water activities. The designated bathing areas are Fužinski Bay and Ukanc, which offer ideal conditions for a relaxing swim. However, bathers often venture to other parts of the lake where they can enjoy refreshments, respecting the natural rules and environmental protection, as Bohinj is part of the Triglav National Park.
The water in Lake Bohinj is replenished three times a year. The main inflow is the Savica River, while the main outflow is the Jezernica River. During heavy rains, karst waters spring from the Govice spring on the slope of Pršivec, adding to the natural magic of the lake.
Bathing water quality
To ensure the safety and cleanliness of the water, the ARSO monitors the quality of water in Bohinj’s swimming areas every 14 days, especially during the swimming season, which runs from 15 June to 31 August. Before you go swimming, you can check the latest water quality data on the Bathing Water Quality website.
Swimming for your four-legged friend
If you are a dog owner and would like to enjoy the water with your pet, there are certain rules in Bohinj. In the swimming water areas – Ukanc and Fužinski Bay – swimming is prohibited. However, dogs can swim elsewhere, subject to the Triglav National Park Act, which stipulates that dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. It is important to remember that swimming in all high mountain lakes (such as Triglav Lakes, Krnsko Lake, etc.) is strictly forbidden for all visitors, including dogs.
Indoor swimming pools: comfort all year round
If swimming in the open air is not possible, especially during the winter months, indoor swimming pools are an excellent choice. They are also ideal outside the summer season, when the water in Lake Bohinj becomes suitable only for the bravest.
Bohinj Aquapark offers more than 500 m² of swimming pool space and numerous attractions for all ages throughout the year. With spacious pools, jacuzzis and children’s pools, you’ll find a place for relaxation, fun and activities.
The main pool is equipped with a sound cavity where you can relax completely, or try the pool’s climbing wall or slide down the water slide. For even more fun, you’ll find hot tubs, water jets, a wild river and tropical waterfalls that are sure to add to the fun.
In Aquapark Bohinj, the water temperature in the main pool is 31°C and in the children’s pool and jacuzzi it is 34.6°C, ensuring a pleasant experience for children and adults alike. The outdoor summer terrace is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing, while in the winter months it offers a beautiful view of falling snowflakes.
Compliance with safe swimming rules
Whether you enjoy the nature of Lake Bohinj or the comfort of the Aquapark, it is essential to follow all safety rules and environmental guidelines. This is the only way to preserve Bohinj’s natural beauty for future generations.
