“Now the sun shines out from among the clouds, and the rainbow pours its pure light on the pale Bogomíla, the heavenly dawn bathes the face in soap; the tears that come into his eyes he can hardly hide, for the sky above him is not unlocked, for he is in the holy place, he can hardly believe himself, such is the sight that takes hold of Črtomír.”
“… as the foam of her wrath flies to heaven!” (F. Prešeren from The Baptism at Savica)
Exceptional. Voiced in Slovenian poetry, mystical and mysterious. The birthplace of Slovenia’s largest river, the Sava, and the love story between Bogomila and Črtomir. The Savica Waterfall is not the only waterfall in the world that can be called a double waterfall, although it is truly enchanting for that reason. It is also not the only waterfall “at the end of the world”, and it is not the only one that rains in the Land of the Golden Horn.
But it is certainly unique in the other dualities that are part of its life story. What makes the Savica Waterfall so special? Its journey does not begin at the surface – the water flows through hidden cave tunnels from the Triglav Lakes Valley to fall in two A-shaped streams 78 metres into a green basin beneath the mighty Komarča rock. The unique duality and natural power create a scene you will never forget.
Twice as inimitable and every drop in its story can write a scenario twice as suspenseful as any drop in any unique waterfall in the world.
There is a mountain hut next to the parking area at the Cottage pri Savici, where refreshments and snacks are available. The hut is closed during the winter months, but you can also get some snacks, drinks and interesting souvenirs at the entry point to the Savica waterfall. Due to the many steps, the path to the waterfall is not suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Important:
Of course, you can also see the Savica Waterfall in winter. We try to clear the path and make it as clean and tidy as possible. However, some snow remains or falls from the trees afterwards, which requires caution. Suitable footwear is also strongly recommended in winter.
The Savica Waterfall is 90 km from Ljubljana. From Lake Bohinj (Ribčev Laz), it takes about 15 minutes (9 km) by private car to get to the car park under the Savica Waterfall. If you visit the waterfall on foot, it will take you about 2.5 hours one way from Ribčev Laz.
You can take public or private transport to the car park below the waterfall, after which you must continue on foot. However, it is not yet possible to use a pushchair or wheelchair to get to the waterfall via the stairs.
A trail management fee is payable for the tour. Prices can be found on this website.
Payment can be made by cash, card or voucher for booked groups.
You can bring your dogs, but they must be on a lead. There is no charge for them.
The Savica Waterfall Entrance Point is open all year round between 9:00 and 17:00. Opening hours may change slightly depending on the season.
During the summer months, the access point is open from 9:00 to 20:00.
In case of bad weather, such as heavy rain, storms or heavy snow, the entry point is closed.
The waterfall can be reached by car along the asphalted road to the parking area at the Cottage at Savica. The parking fee is € 5 for 3 hours or € 10 for the whole day for cars and € 20 for 3 hours or € 40 for the whole day for vans and buses. From the car park, a well-marked path with 553 steps leads to the waterfall, which takes about 20-25 minutes on foot.
