The traditional game “Vasovanje” shows the old traditions that existed in Bohinj in the past. The narrative brings back the tradition of boys getting together in the village in the evenings to sing by the windows of the girls in hope to win their hearts or prove their affection. They continued in their own way, hoping that their sweethearts would listen to them instead of their mother, who would send them out with a wet shower. Few people succeeded in getting their significant other to pin the most exquisite carnation from her window to their chest and light a cigar as a sign of their love.

And when love succeeded, the boys bade farewell to their significant other with typical boyishness.

The game is organised with the help of the adult folklore group of the Bohinj Cultural Association. It was first presented in 1956, which means that it has been performed more than 60 times. Every year, a good number of local and foreign visitors to Bohinj come to see it. The event’s main importance is the transmission and presentation of Bohinj customs and the preservation of the Bohinj language.
